Rye: Salt's Farm Shop

Salt's Farm Shop on the outskirts of Rye is a regular stop off when walking the hound on Camber Sands. Housed in a large shed, this farm shop has a small cafe area with wood burning stove for the winter months along with bright blue benches outside for when the sun's out. Selling a range of local produce and gifts it's a handy place to pop into to pick something up for dinner.

Opened in 2010, this family run farm shop is located at Salts Farm which has been in the same family for 6 generations. Bursting with locally sourced meat, drinks, dairy, ice cream and much more this little shop is open everyday.

During the winter months when Camber Sands is open to dogs, this little cafe is a great place to stop off after for a hot cuppa and bacon butty. The tiny wood stove is always alight during the colder months and makes the area proper cosy.

Guaranteed a friendly welcome, we popped in on a Saturday afternoon for a hot drink and browse of the shop. As always the shop was clean, tidy and well stocked. After getting some sausages for dinner, we ordered at the counter and took a seat in the cafe. Whilst waiting for our drinks there was a steady flow of customers, mostly locals popping in for some essentials and having a catch up with the ladies behind the counter. A lovely friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy a coffee and chat with friends.

Drinks arrived swiftly - pot of tea for Ollie, cappuccino for Tester 1 and latte for moi. Considering this is not a specialty coffee house, our coffees tasted great. Not up there with Edith's House or Loaf but definitely on par with Brunch. All coffee drinks are espresso based using Lily coffee.

Served in white chunky crockery the serving sizes are decent and good value. Freshly made rolls and cakes are available and I can recommend the bacon buttys from previous visits.

The Verdict?
A very good farm shop run by people who are passionate about sourcing and selling local good quality produce. The cafe is a great place to come for a quick pit stop and they sell great ice cream. Friendly and welcoming  you will probably leave having bought more than you planned to!
