Whitstable: What's up Cupcake

Our last review from our brilliant weekend in Whitstable was on our way back to the car having had a really fun afternoon, we spotted the shop Whats up Cupcake? Now I love cake especially in the form of a cupcake, so we just had to go in and sample. Painted in a vibrant lime green, the shop looks inviting and I love the paper poms poms in the window.

Although not a cafe and with no seating available, we still felt this deserved a mention on the blog. All cakes are freshly baked and use all natural ingredients. Upon entering you are surrounded by all things cake. Being the end of a lovely sunny day, the display counter luckily had some cakes left or there may have been tears. The flavour options included - vanilla, double chocolate, raspberry ripple, chocolate fudge, raspberry and white and few more scrummy looking choices.

A lady appeared from the back to welcome us and take our orders. I plumped for the Chocolate Fudge whilst Tester Two went for a Double Chocolate. Ollie and Tester One decided to pass on the cake and save themselves for a Mr Whippy by the harbour!

Whilst our cupcakes were being wrapped, I took a moment to have a peek at the other bits for sale - birthday and cake related cards, cake stands and wedding pressies.

The window display was what had drawn us in, big bright paper pom poms, an assortment of cakes displayed in various ways along with a huge 5 tier wedding cake.

Our cupcakes were presented in cellophane bags with a cute little label. Looking too good to eat we saved them to eat when we got home.

Saving my cake until I got home was a good move. It was soooooo good. Not sickly and not over flavoured. The icing was fudgy and smooth whilst the chocolate sponge was light and fluffy, properly homemade.
